Resource Friday - Fireproof The Movie

Our family watches a lot of movies. I mean, A LOT of movies. When we moved to our new home, our tapes and DVDs were one of the first things unpacked. We especially like watching old classic comedy. There aren't too many kids who can recite lines from the Marx Brothers, The Honeymooners, Red Skelton, Victor Borge, or Laurel and Hardy, but ours can. Dinners around our household can get downright slapstick (I shot an elephant in my pajamas. What he was doing in my pajamas I'll never know. Yuk, yuk, yuk....).

We search for movies that our whole family can watch without fear of gratuitous sensuality, language and violence or the promotion of ungodly values (we watched the Cider House Rules once because we didn't know ahead of time what it was about. Boy, did that stir up discussion for DAYS afterward. We've since gotten into the habit of checking movies out on Plugged In Online before deciding to watch something.).

I don't think I'd get much argument from you folks that Hollywood has lost touch with what real family entertainment is all about, or that movies with a positive Judeo-Christian foundation or message are all but lost on them. If we want movies like that to have a place in today's entertainment, then we have to support their production and releases.

The movie Fireproof is set for release on Friday, September 26th and it looks like it's going to be a great film for families with older children to go to together. This is the third production from the creators of Facing The Giants, one of our family's favorites (let's see, how many times have we watched it now?).

If you go to Fireproof's website you'll be able to tell if the movie is coming to a theater near you, purchase tickets, check out their blog and watch video clips. And if for some reason the movie is not coming to your town, you can get info on how to do that through their Action Squad link. I checked our closest major theater (35 miles away) and it will be playing there.

Let's get out and support Fireproof and let Hollywood know that this is the kind of entertainment we want. Enjoy the trailer and see you at the movies!

Looks like a GREAT movie. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. BTW where do you get copies of those old comedy favorites? I'd love to have some of those in my DVD library.

Mostly, we find them in the dollar bin at Walmart or video stores. You have to do some digging sometimes, but my husband, the great movie digger that he is, doesn't mind making a spectacle of himself in pursuit of a good Humphrey Bogart or Burns and Allen favorite. And I'm not sure, but I'd bet we have every John Wayne movie ever made (that's my daughter groaning in the background).

Thanks for stopping by Rick!

Hi there! I got here via Exemplify...I wanted to read what you had to say about Fireproof.

You are absolutely right on about movies today. In fact, we hardly ever watch movies for that reason.

But our Sunday School class got to take part in a "Sneak Preview" of Fireproof and I posted about it last month. I thought you might be interested to read a review.

Don't worry: no spoilers. And it's all that you probably think it is...and more. Loved it!

Now I'm gonna go read some of your stuff! Nice to meet you!
